The Public Authority of Industry, during 2010, has implemented its development programs in the framework of the development plan of the State headed by the new construction projects through which not less than 2500 industrial plots of lands ranging between 1000 square meters to 10.000 square meters were provided for the infrastructure development projects for each of the Shadadiyah industrial area, Al-Naayem industrial area and Sabhan industrial area Block 11 in addition to the efforts made during this year by calling on the industrial investments to hold their industrial projects in the following areas (Sabhan, Amghara industrial area and Shuaimba industrial area). In addition to settlement of 6 vital friendly environment projects in Shuaibah industrial area (the eastern area), and this constitutes only a very simple part of the ambition that the The Public Authority of Industry is seeking to achieve in the next coming years.
Thus, the expansion in distribution of the industrial plots is considered the main incentive for many industrialists to invest their capitals in holding industrial projects to enable the industrial sector carrying out the role assigned thereto.
The Public Authority of Industry is keen to enhance the production capability and capacity of the industrial plants by benefiting from the experiences and expertise of the regional and international institutions in the field of industrial development to achieve the strategic goals and objectives of the economic development plan in upgrading the contribution of the industrial sector in the gross domestic products (GDP) of the country.
The Public Authority of Industry has also contracted with the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and will be contracting with the International Trade Center (ITC) for preparation of a study to provide technical data and information on the nature of export markets to assist in development of the quantity and quality of the national products and enhancement its competitive ability.
To develop information technology systems in the Public Authority of Industry as the Public Authority has incorporated the information technology to its activities to simplify the procedures of the industrial investor and establishing database to provide the planning and executive departments of the Public Authority with industrial information and data which will assist them to carry out the tasks assigned thereto in order to push the manufacturing process and enhance the industrial development opportunities and the among the most important systems that have been incorporated for development of the work and improvement of performance are:
- Contracts automated system.
- Decision Support System.
- Development of the industrial procedures.
- Development of the industrial exports system.
Adoption of the basis, standards and rules of the necessary support for the industrial exports which will contribute in raising export ability for the national factories and achieve the export strategy of the country in diversifying the national income sources in respect of foreign exhibitions programs and the commercial delegations as well as development of the industrial plants exports.
The Public Authority of Industry continued operating both stations of cooling water pump (B & C) at Shuaiba industrial area (the eastern area) for providing the oil and petrochemical companies with sea water for cooling as during the fiscal year 2010 the companies were provided with 1959 million square meters.
From the concerns of the Public Authority of Industry to preserve the environment, it has continued to operate the receiving and solid industrial waste treatment station in Shuaiba industrial area (the western area) on about 450.000 square meters as in 2010 19.830 tons of inert waste was received and treated and 16,222 tons of hazardous waste.
Also in the field of environment, the Public Authority of Industry made great efforts to protect environment in all areas under its authority as submission of environment studies is considered as an essential condition for holding industrial projects and the Public Authority of Industry is keen to obtain all the necessary environment approvals for all the endemic industries in addition that the Public Authority of Industry has coordinated with the Environment Public Authority on the industries to be resettled in the new industrial areas.
The Public Authority of Industry has issued industrial approvals to grant licenses for medium industrial enterprises for 39 plants for investments amounted KD130,802,547 to provide 2366 job opportunities and the lands required for resettlement of the industrial projects are 319,000 square meters.
The Public Authority of Industry has issued approvals to grant licenses for addition of product, increasing the production capacity with land, increasing the land, changing the activity, increasing work shifts for 45 plants for investments amounted KD102,192,108 to provide 1898 job opportunities and at resettlement lands for such activities of 750.000 square meters.
In 2010 the number of applications for plants benefitted from the exemption reached 483 applications for industrial plants, the size of importing their machines, equipment, replacement spare parts, raw materials and packaging materials reached KD7368 million and the value of exemption amounted to KD369 million.
The Public Authority of Industry is managing the free trade zone pursuant to the resolution of the Council of Ministers in this respect for the purpose of re-activating the economic movement in the country and recovery of capital movement and the State of Kuwait restoring its economic leadership in the area through management of its operational activities with high efficiency and simplifying the procedures to meet the needs and requirements of the investors including signing all the contracts with them according to the systems applicable in this respect and payment of all the invoices for services provided to them in the area as well as issuance of licenses for practicing different licenses and also issuance of the necessary permits for entry and exit of goods according to the applicable laws and regulations with confirmation to the regulatory and inspection role to catch the violators. In addition to facilitate obtaining the necessary services for operating and carrying out the maintenance operations in the area in addition to coordinating with the other relevant government authorities to facilitate and organize the work in the area and activation of the related laws.
The Public Authority of Industry continued in management its operational activities with the required efficiency which resulted in achievement of actual surplus amounted KD13,8 million in 2009/2010.
